Filament Check

  1. 1
    Attach probe circuit tester (in volt range) to middle portion of each filament.
    6 volts (normal filament)
    Rear window defogger filament check — normal filament reading 6 volts, probe at middle of filament

    If a filament is burned out, circuit tester registers 0 or 12 volts.
    12 volts — burned-out point is to the right of probe position (fig2/SEL264)
    0 volts — burned-out point is to the left of probe position (fig3/SEL265)
    Rear window defogger filament check — burned-out filament, probe to left of burned-out point reading 12 volts

    To locate burned out point, move probe to left and right along filament to determine point where tester needle swings abruptly.
