CHARGING SYSTEM — Alternator — Rotor Slip Ring (Cont'd) / Brush Check / Stator Check
EL-28prose procedureRotor Slip Ring Check (Cont'd)
Rotor — insulator + slip-ring wear
- 1Insulator test. Continuity exists → Replace rotor.
- 2Check slip ring for wear. Slip ring minimum outer diameter: refer to S.D.S.
Brush Check
Brush — movement, wear and spring
- 1Check smooth movement of brush. Not smooth → check brush holder and clean.
- 2Check brush for wear. Replace brush if it is worn down to the limit line.
- 3Check brush lead wire for damage. Damaged → Replace.
- 4Check brush spring pressure. Measure brush spring pressure with brush projected approximately 2 mm (0.08 in) from brush holder. Spring pressure: refer to S.D.S. Not within the specified values → Replace.
Stator Check
NOTE
To test the stator or diode, separate them by unsoldering the connecting wires.
WARNING
CAUTION: Use only as much heat as required to melt solder. Otherwise, diodes will be damaged by excessive heat.
Stator — continuity test
- 1Separate stator from diode using long-nose pliers as a heat sink while desoldering.
- 2Continuity test. No continuity → Replace stator.
