DISCHARGING, EVACUATING, CHARGING AND CHECKING — Points 5 and 6

HA-23prose procedure

Point-5 — Evacuating the System

Evacuating (Point-5)

  1. 1
Close manifold gauge valve securely and disconnect charging hose from refrigerant can.
Manifold gauge with both valves OPEN feeding a vacuum pump on the centre tap (Point-5 evacuating step).
    SHA241B
  2. 2
Connect center charging hose to vacuum pump.
  3. 3
Start pump, then open both valves and run pump for over 20 minutes.

Point-6 — Charging

Charging refrigerant

  1. 1
Close manifold gauge valves securely and disconnect charging hose from vacuum pump. Purge air from center charging hose.
Manifold gauge connections for purging air from charging hose: both valves CLOSED while purging air with refrigerant can on centre tap.
    SHA242B
  2. 2
    (1) Connect center charging hose to refrigerant can through charge valve. (2) Break seal of refrigerant can and purge air.
  3. 3
Charge refrigerant into system. (1) Open high-pressure valve of manifold gauge and charge refrigerant into system.
    Ensure that engine is off.
Manifold gauge connections for charging refrigerant: low-pressure valve CLOSED, high-pressure valve OPEN. Refrigerant can on centre tap (right-side up).
    RHA278
  4. 4
    (2) When low-pressure gauge reading is 98 kPa (0.98 bar, 1.0 kg/cm², 14 psi), completely close high-pressure valve of manifold gauge and stop charging.
Charging the system with refrigerant can turned upside down — low-pressure valve CLOSED, high-pressure valve OPEN. Liquid charging (must be done only via high-pressure side, with engine off).
    SHA244B
Point-5 evacuation time
> 20minutes
Stop-charging low-pressure gauge readingStep 4.
98kPa (0.98 bar, 1.0 kg/cm², 14 psi)
