SERVICE PROCEDURE

Diagnostic flow — Symptom 7 (hard to start every time)

1
1. LISTEN — Listen for fuel pump operating sound.
N.G.
Check fuel pump and/or related circuits. [See page EF & EC-102.]
O.K.
2
2. CHECK — Make sure tachometer indicates about 300 rpm while cranking.
N.G.
3. MEASURE — Measure battery voltage.
3. MEASURE — Measure battery voltage. Charge the battery.
O.K. [?]
3
4. CRANK — Advance/retard ignition timing and try to start (using crank angle sensor and ignition switch).
No change
(No change) → Proceed to other steps.
Improved
(Improved) → Check idle mixture ratio. [See page EF & EC-25.]
next [?]
4
5. REMOVE — Remove vacuum hose from pressure regulator, and try to start.
next [?]
6. CHECK — Check flashes of timing light for weakness (uses power transistor KV10901050).
Improved
5
7. MEASURE — Connect vacuum hose to pressure regulator and measure fuel pressure.
next [?]
6
8. CHECK — Check vacuum hose of canister for air leaks.
N.G.
Repair or replace the hose.
O.K. [?]
7
9. CHECK — Remove spark plugs and measure their gaps; check ignition sparks at coil.
N.G.
Replace the wires.
O.K.
8
11. PERFORM — Perform self-diagnosis Mode III/IV (engine temp sensor, crank angle sensor, neutral switch, idle switch).
(check malfunctioning circuits)
9
Check the malfunctioning circuits: [See pages EF & EC-86 (engine temp sensor), EF & EC-82 (crank angle sensor), EF & EC-94 (neutral switch / idle switch).]
