ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION (Power steering) — Checking Hydraulic System (Cont'd)

ST-9prose procedure

Checking Hydraulic System (Cont'd)

Hydraulic-system pressure check (continued from ST-8)

  1. 3
Check pressure with steering wheel fully turned to left and right positions with engine idling at 1,000 rpm.
Do not hold the steering wheel in a locked position for more than 15 seconds.
Hydraulic test setup: pump → tank → gear circuit, with the ST27091000 pressure gauge / shut-off valve installed in the high-pressure hose between pump and gear; low-pressure return hose runs from gear back to tank. Arrows show direction of oil flow.

  2. 4
If oil pressure is below the standard pressure, slowly close shut-off valve and check pressure. When pressure reaches standard pressure, gear is damaged. When pressure remains below standard pressure, pump is damaged.
Do not close shut-off valve for more than 15 seconds.
  3. 5
If oil pressure is higher than standard pressure, pump is damaged.
  4. 6
After checking hydraulic system, remove Tool and add fluid as necessary, then completely bleed air out of system.
Oil pump maximum standard pressureAt idling, steering wheel fully turned.
