STEERING WHEEL AND STEERING COLUMN — Disassembly cont'd, Steering Lock, Inspection
ST-14prose procedureColumn lengths differ between L.H.D. and R.H.D. cars: R.H.D. has the longer L₁ and shorter L₂.
Disassembly and Assembly (Cont'd)
Steering lock
Steering-lock self-shear-screw replacement
- 1Break self-shear type screws with a drill or other appropriate tool.
SST742A - 2Install self-shear type screws and then cut off self-shear type screw heads.

Check steering column lower shaft for deformation or breakage. Replace if necessary.
IMPORTANT
When the vehicle is involved in a light collision, check steering column length "L₁" and steering column lower shaft length "L₂". If it is not within specifications, replace steering column as an assembly.
