Side Bearing Preload (Cont'd)
G: This is the difference in thickness of side spacer against standard width [8.10 mm (0.3189 in)]. (G = Standard spacer – Measured spacer)
Side Bearing Preload (Cont'd)
- 3Measure how far under the standard thickness [21 mm (0.83 in)] the side bearings are. It will require tools shown to the left. ① Weight Block (ST32501000) ② Master Gauge (KV38102000) ③ Base Plate ④ Dial Indicator
SPD048 - 4Place the outer race of the opposite side bearing to be measured.
SPD150 - 5Place a weight block on that outer race, and a master gauge on that block. Tool number: A ST32501000 B KV38102000
- 6Adjust dial indicator scale to zero.
- 7Carefully slide master gauge block and weight block out from under dial indicator.
- 8Lubricate side bearing and place the bearing outer race and inner cone to be measured on the opposite side outer race.If the bearing assembly is placed on the base plate, the bearing width cannot be accurately determined due to its cage being in contact with the base plate.
SPD050 - 9Place weight block on side bearing.
SPD591 - 10Slide dial indicator on weight block.
IMPORTANT
If the bearing assembly is placed on the base plate, the bearing width cannot be accurately determined due to its cage being in contact with the base plate.
